5 Days in Bermuda Itinerary
For our first major trip back in the traveling saddle after baby, we wanted to stick with a relatively short flight and, again, stay zika-free. We settled on Bermuda, a quick and easy two hour direct flight from Atlanta, mainly because we could pay for our flights with miles. We had an incredible time with some of our very best friends and, Elizabeth's first international trip was a major success!
We visited in March and were expecting relatively moderate temperatures, but this tiny island country just so happened to be having one of the coldest weeks on record while we were there! Never ones to let a little cold weather get us down, we all wore the one pair of jeans in our respective suitcases for five straight days and used blankets as scarves. Please enjoy the fashion show. :)
Day 1: Arrival Day
Check-in to the Hamilton Princess, a Fairmont managed property, this was the official hotel of the America's Cup so we knew we couldn't go wrong! Situated a short walk from downtown Hamilton, this hotel offered the perfect location for morning walks with baby. Take note: you cannot rent a car in Bermuda so taxis and scooters are your only transportation options. We preferred to have the option to walk into town, making this the perfect hotel for us!
Explore the hotel property - there's lots to see! We arrived later in the afternoon so after checking in, we wandered through the hotel shops and did our own self-guided art tour (you can also go on a guided art tour) taking in the hotel's impressive collection of world-renowned contemporary art. Grab drinks at the hotel bar, Crown & Anchor. Enjoy dinner at 1609 Bar & Restaurant or Marcus' (reservations strongly recommended).
Day 2: Swizzle Inn, Crystal Caves,
Two things you have to do in Bermuda - visit the Swizzle Inn and the Crystal Caves - are conveniently located right beside each other. Enjoy walking around Hamilton and grab breakfast or brunch in the morning, then for lunch take a taxi to the original Swizzle Inn to enjoy the national drink of Bermuda, the Rum Swizzle! You won't regret it!
After lunch you can walk across the street and down the footpath (signs point the way) to the Crystal Caves.
Dinner Recommendation: Walk from hotel to Port O' Call, situated right on Front Street overlooking the harbor.
Day 3: Pool AND Beach Day
We didn't get too much pool time because of the weather, but you will want to take advantage of the properties two beautiful pools! Grab the free shuttle over to The Princess Beach Club for lunch at Marcus' on the Beach, grab a cabana and hang out for the afternoon!
Dinner Recommendation: Walk to The Lobster Pot
Day 4: St. George's Island and Fort St. Catherine
While the city of Hamilton was created on the traditional grid system, in the much older St. George, the streets wind and curve into a charming, scenic maze. Begin by visiting St. Peter's Church, stop for a bite to eat and a rum swizzle at one of Bermuda's oldest restaurants, White Horse Pub and Restaurant, in the town square. Continue to wind your way up the hill to the unfinished church. From there, follow the road to the other side of the island where you'll find some smaller, more secluded beaches as well as Fort St. Catherine, a 17th century designated world heritage site.
Dinner Recommendation: Walk to Portofino for some of the best (low-key) Italian food of. your. life.
Day 5: Scooter Day! Royal Navy Dockyards and Horseshoe Bay
You may not be allowed to rent a car, but tourists on scooters is 100% kosher in Bermuda! Pick up your new ride from right beside the hotel and take the scenic route alllllll the way around the island to the home of the 2017 America's Cup, the Royal Navy Dockyards! Explore for awhile, watch the sailboats and grab lunch. After lunch, wind your way back to Horseshoe Bay where you can spend the rest of your afternoon exploring hidden beaches along Horseshoe Bay!
Dinner Recommendation: Go out in style! Take a taxi to Waterlot Inn. Get there early for drinks outside and to catch the sunset!
